Lord Stone of Blackheath

Andrew Stone joined Marks and Spencer plc as a Trainee in1966 and retired as Joint Managing Director of the Company in 1999.

When the New Labour Government was formed in 1997, he was raised to the peerage as Baron Stone of Blackheath.

His expertise was based on

  • understanding the synergy when Technology and Design come together to create desirable high quality products and services
  • knowing that customers’ rapidly changing needs and desires can be forcasted and linked to flexible supply chains
  • seeing the importance of caring service and comfortable ambiance when customers are choosing to what to buy.

His community work has been based around

  • his fascination with the juxtaposition between Art & Science and
  • a lifelong interest in the process of creating understanding and toward peace in the Middle East and
  • a desire to help people living with life threatening illnesses to understand their condition and to know their options.
